Excise asks alcohol permits holders to renew licenses before Eid

LAHORE: Excise and Taxation Department of Punjab has urged the alcohol permit holders to renew their licenses before Eid to avoid any legal action.

Excise and Taxation Department of Punjab issues permits in Punjab to sale and purchase of alcohol to Christian community only.

According to an officials of Excise Punjab there are ten thousand permits in Punjab and all the permits have been expired from June 30th. Excise issues these permits on specific terms and conditions to persons of Christian community to sale/purchase alcohol.

All of these 10,000 Christian permit holders will have to renew their permits before Eidul Fitr.

Excise and Taxation Department annually gets more than one billion rupees excise duty on sale of alcohol in Punjab only.

Now Director General Excise has issued a new circular to collect new surcharge from persons who wants to carry alcohol from one district to another. Officials said that this new surcharge will generate more revenue for the department of excise.
