Federal govt to levy tax on usage of Internet

KARACHI: After the provincial governments, now the federal government has also decided to impose 14 percent advance tax on the usage of Internet.

Now the people of Sindh and KPK will have to pay tax from 32 percent to 33.5 percent. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) sources told Customs Today that this will be applied on bills of fixed line telephones, monthly Internet bills and Internet pre-paid cards. Sources said that this 14 percent advance income tax will be adjustable in tax returns. The customers who do not file tax returns will bear the burden of Internet tax.

It is pertinent to mention here that the governments of KPK and Sindh had also levied sales tax at the rate of 19.5 percent and 18 percent, respectively on the Internet.

After announce of 14 percent advance income tax by the federal government, the KPK and Sindh customers have to pay tax from 32 percent to 33.5 percent.
