Samsung Electronics profit falls 4.03% to $6.1bn in Q2

SEOUL: Samsung Electronics posted 6.9 trillion won (6.1 billion U.S. dollars) in operating profit for the second quarter, a regulatory filing showed Tuesday.

The 6.9 trillion-won profit was up 15.38 percent from the previous quarter, but was down 4.03 percent from a year earlier.

Samsung’s operating profit got back on a recovery track in the past three quarters after bottoming at 4.06 trillion won in the third quarter of last year.

The profit was 5.29 trillion won in the fourth quarter of last year, before recording 5.98 trillion won in the first quarter and 6.9 trillion won in the second quarter.

Preliminary figure for the second quarter revenue was 48 trillion won, up 1.87 percent from the previous quarter but down 8. 31 percent from a year ago.

The company did not unveil its estimates for net profit and a breakdown of each business when announcing the preliminary figures. The final results will be made known later this month after an external audit.
