NEW YORK: Facebook-owned Instagram has launched support for higher resolution images 1080 x 1080 pixels. This means it has doubled the previous upload resolution of 640 x 640 pixels.
So, don’t be surprised if the photos in your stream start looking crisper. The new announcement comes from Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger and the update will be rolling out to both Android and iOS.
The company says the new feature has been rolling out for a week, and most users should start seeing the change. It should be noted that the new feature doesn’t come in the form of an app update, but it is a change that has been made on the server side.
Launched in 2010, Instagram is a popular image sharing service with more than 300 million monthly active users. It has always held on to the lower image size as most phones didn’t support larger size images. Now, the support for higher resolution images seems like the right move considering the high-end and advanced smart devices we use.
