Customs commemorates 40 years of exceptional services

NEW YORK: Commissioner of Customs, Mr. Wade Smith said that this year’s event is being held to commemorate 40 years of exceptional service from the Customs Department.

Mr. Smith said, “We want to share this significant milestone with our clients and the public who have supported us over the past 40 years.” He added, “Masquerade masks will not be provided as there are prizes for best female mask, best male mask and the best dressed couple”.

Patrons will celebrate the Customs Ball under the theme, ‘Fusion of Colours – Masquerade Ball’ at Callaloo Prospect Reef from 9:00 p.m. with entertainment by DJ Bertrum and Cool Session Brass of St. John, United States Virgin Islands. Admission is $25 and is payable at the door.

Tickets can be purchased from the Her Majesty’s Customs Headquarters on the third floor of the Richard Stoutt building, and J&C Trading Limited.

The department commenced its 40th Anniversary celebrations on July 1, under the theme, “The Transition: 40 Years “Reflections throughout forty years: revenue collection, ensuring legitimate trade, border protection, continuous reform and modernisation”

Her Majesty’s Customs is charged with the responsibility to safeguard the well-being and security of the Territory by facilitating legitimate trade, enforcing import and export regulations and conducting covert and overt surveillance of the Territorial waters.
