Govt to enhance power transmission capacity to 21,000MW till 2016 end

ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ai has claimed that the federal government has enhanced the national power transmission capacity from 13,750MW last years to 16,300MW.

The minister said, briefing the meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Water and Power held under the chairmanship of Senator Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, said that the government also plan to enhance transmission up to 21,000 MW by the end of year 2016.

Abid Sher Ali said that the government had increased the capacity from 13,750 MW to 16,300 MW in the last two years which is remarkable. “We could not improve the system without upgrading transmission lines across the country.”

The minister thanked the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for provision of land for construction of a grid station at Chakdara, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said besides laying a number of power transmission lines, one 500 Kv and nine 220 Kv grid stations had been constructed to improve flow of power transmission.
