ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan has also raised his voice in support of National Agriculture Research Council (Narc).

The minister has written a letter to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, asking him to reject the summary sent by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for converting the Narc headquarters into a real estate project.

According to a senior officer in the Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (Parc), the minister wrote the letter last week in which he highlighted the importance of the prime agriculture research centre and its possible disintegration if converted into a housing society.

The minister asked the premier to look into the issue immediately and save the premises of Narc, which has been actively working for national food security for the last 30 years.

Last month, the CDA prepared a summary and suggested that it could launch a housing scheme on the piece of land in Chak Shahzad Islamabad, where Narc had established its headquarters in 1984 after acquiring it on lease from the CDA. The civic authority is reluctant to extend the lease or allot the land to the research institute.
