TOKYO: Toyota released the pictures of the redesigned 2016 Prius a few days ago on Taiwanese website Autonet.com.tw. And interestingly, designers came up with a two-face approach where the regular hybrid is more conventionally styled and the plug-in hybrid model resembles the company’s upcoming Mirai fuel-cell sedan.

We’ve also learned a number of technical details about the next-generation Prius, which is expected to debut at the Tokyo Auto Show this fall. Look for a fuel consumption of about 2.5L/100km, slightly larger dimensions 4,550mm long vs. 4,480mm, 1,770mm wide vs. 1,745mm (height is identical) and a 20% weight reduction from the current Prius.

The new Toyota Prius will reportedly come standard with a CVT offering four drive modes as well as a Hybrid Synergy Drive system with increased total output (anywhere between 145-150 horsepower). Based on U.S. test cycles, all-electric range will amount to 13 miles (21 kilometers).

Obviously, we’ll get more information about the 2016 Prius in the weeks leading up to its auto show premiere.
