He said a marine patrol boat stopped and checked the boat that was just heading to Nunukan, Indonesia about 6pm.

Mohamad Madun said when the cargo was checked, marine personnel found sugar, cooking oil, flour, Nestle Milo and the motorcycle believed to be stolen.

He said the 33-year-old skipper and 40-year-old crewman were detained after failing to show permit letters from the Customs Department on the goods and trying to smuggle them out.

He said the case would be investigated under Section 135(1) of the Customs Act 1967 (smuggling) and Section 379A of the Penal Code for possessing suspected stolen goods.

The marine police also seized 400 litres of petrol worth RM1,236 and detained two Filipino men in Semporna here the other day.

Mohamad said a marine patrol boat patrolling the waters at Kampung Bangau-Bangau stopped a pump-boat skippered by a 22-year-old Filipino about 7.20pm.

When the boat was checked, marine personnel found 16 containers of petrol believed to be for smuggling out to a neighbouring country which was an offence under the Customs Act 1967.

The suspect and his crewman, aged 20, both from Pondohan, Sibangkat Island were detained and the petrol and boat were seized for further action.
