TOKYO: Mojang and Telltale declared at Minecon over the weekend that Minecraft: Story Mode, the 5-part episodic series from Telltale, will release later this year and revealed some of the voice talent.

Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition beta will be available for free for those who already own Minecraft on PC. New players can purchase the game at a discounted price of $10 for a limited time as well.

Some of the extras also include features cherry-picked from the Minecraft: Pocket Edition.

Exciting developments are underway in the world of Microsoft’s Minecraft. Microsoft wanted a Windows Store version of Minecraft, but Notch said at the time “I’d rather have Minecraft not run on win 8 at all than to play along”. As Minecraft is Mojang’s only title, it stands to reason that the developer has some level of input in Minecraft Story Mode.

Good news #2: The new Windows 10 edition won’t supplant the current PC edition; both will be supported equally. Better things can and do happen – like The Lego Movie, or most of Telltales Games’ oeuvre to date, notably its takes on The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and Back to the Future.

The first episode of Minecraft: Story Mode starring Patton Oswalt and Ashley Johnson will be unleashed later this year on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, Mac, Android and iOS. “But for a convention dedicated to a single video-game to get that number is nothing short of astonishing”. Thankfully, this one will be able to play online with the Pocket Edition of the game by way of an update “after launch”.

Record and share gameplay highlights with built-in GameDVR. The latest version is coming out on July 29 with the Windows 10 update for Windows 10.

–Features chickens, zombies, pigs, boats, armed skeletons, potatoes, zombies, baby squids, enchantment tables, villagers, naked sheep, iron golems, potions, ghasts, pickaxes, carrots, and all the weird and wonderful goodness fans can expect from “Minecraft”. There’s an in-game recording tool and you can easily switch between keyboard, gamepad, and touch controls whenever you want.
