FRANCE: “For the crewed test flights, two NASA astronauts will fly on the SpaceX Crew Dragon, and one NASA and one Boeing astronaut will fly on the Boeing CST-100″.
NASA has announced the names of four astronauts who it hopes will pilot the first commercial spaceflights.
NASA unveiled the four astronauts who will eventually participate in the first USA commercial flight to the global Space Station (ISS).
To meet this requirement, the companies also must provide the necessary training for the crew to operate their respective vehicles. Each company is guaranteed at least two flights to the ISS after NASA certifies their vehicles as safe.
Two private companies – SpaceX and Boeing – are still developing the crew capsules that will launch to the global Space Station from Cape Canaveral, Florida.
Hurley, who flew on the last space shuttle flight in 2011 and on a previous shuttle mission, has more than 4,500 flight hours. “On an American-owned spacecraft, the average cost will be $58 million per astronaut. What’s more, each mission will carry four crew members instead of three, along with (220 pounds) of materials to support the important science and research we conduct on the ISS”. He said that the four astronauts that have been selected to fly this mission are already making history that would be preserved in annuls of American history forever.
