Border customs seizes $366,000 worth drugs

NEW YORK: Over the course of four days, Border Patrol agents at the Yuma Station arrested 14 individuals and seized over $366,000 in drugs.

According to a Yuma Station Border Patrol press release, the first occurred on Thursday when a canine drug-detection team signaled on a vehicle passing through the Wellton checkpoint on eastbound Interstate 8. Within the rocker panels of the vehicle were 22 pounds of methamphetamine worth an estimated $110,000.

In a separate incident on Saturday night, 225 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $112,500, were dropped by an ultralight vehicle and seized by agents assigned to the Yuma Station, according to the Yuma Sector Border Patrol.

There were two incidents on Sunday, according to the press release. One, involving six male Mexican nationals allegedly observed smuggling marijuana south of Interstate 8 near Sentinel, ended with the arrest of the six men and the seizure of 287 pounds of marijuana with a value of $143,850.

The other Sunday incident took place at night in the Quechan Casino Resort parking lot. A female U.S. citizen was arrested for allegedly smuggling six Mexican nationals, one woman and five men, into the U.S.

All drugs, vehicles and persons were seized or apprehended and then processed following Yuma Sector guidelines.

Yuma Sector Border Patrol did not respond to requests for more information.
