TOKYO: Honda could be filling the void between the Japan-only S660 roadster and the Acura NSX with a new sports car.

Speaking with AutoGuide, John Mendel, Honda’s executive vice president in the U.S., said that “absolutely there is” room for an enthusiast-focused sports car in Honda’s lineup. But when pressed, he said he’d “probably get fired” if he dished any more details about the car.

Whether or not it turns out to be a true “baby NSX” complete with a mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout or a successor to the S2000 discontinued more than six years ago remains to be seen. It’s something many enthusiasts would no doubt welcome with open arms and (as long as these leaked patent images are to be believed)if these leaked patent images even something Honda has apparently thought about if these leaked patent images are any indication.

Currently, the only “affordable” performance-oriented Honda model in North America is the Civic Si. Needless to say, there’s a huge gap, both in terms of price and performance, between the Civic and the NSX.
