Finnsih unemployment rate rises to 10% in June

HELSINKI: The unemployment rate stood at 10 per cent in June 2015, having been 9.2 per cent in the year before, according to Statistics Finland’s Labour Force Survey.

There were 280,000 unemployed persons in the month. The number of unemployed persons was 22,000 higher than one year ago, the data show. There were 35,000 fewer employed than in June of the previous year. The unemployment rate in the second quarter (April to June) was 10.7 per cent, which was 1.1 percentage points higher than in the respective quarter of 2014.

In June 2015, the number of employed persons was 2,526,000, which was 35,000 lower than a year earlier. There were 22,000 fewer employed men and 13,000 fewer employed women than in June 2014 as per the statistics. In June, the employment rate, that is, the proportion of the employed among persons aged 15 to 64, stood at 71 per cent, which was 0.7 percentage points lower than one year before. Unemployment rate and trend of unemployment rate 2005/06–2015/06, persons aged 15–74. The employment rate for men decreased by 0.9 percentage points to 72.2 per cent and that of women by 0.5 percentage points to 69.7 per cent. Adjusted for seasonal and random variation, the trend of the employment rate was 67.7 per cent. At the end of June 2015, there were altogether 369,000 persons registered in accordance with the Employment Office Regulations as unemployed job seekers at the employment and economic development offices.
