TORONTO: A St. John’s man charged with smuggling obscene material in 2013 has finally set dates for trial. Kenneth Harrisson, 50, initially entered not guilty pleas over a year ago. His lawyer abruptly left his law practice earlier this year, causing a delay in proceedings just as the trial was set to begin.
Harrisson’s new lawyer, Bob Buckingham, entered additional not guilty pleas on Harrisson’s outstanding charges and set a three-day trial down for January of next year.
Harrisson is accused of possessing child pornography, possessing obscene material and smuggling prohibited goods.
Canada Border Services agents intercepted a package at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, destined for St. John’s in January 2013. Authorities said the package contained a human-like figure, which turned out to be an illegal child sex doll.
