LONDON: The Kepler mission, from NASA, has found a new planet that is roughly the same size as Earth. More importantly, though, they say that this planet is within the “habitable zone” of a nearby sun-like star.
On Thursday, the agency announced the discovery of this planet—Kepler-452b—which is the smallest planet discovered within this star’s habitable zone. And the planet is actually approximately 60 percent larger in diameter than the Earth; it is within the constellation Cygnus, and is approximately 1,400 light years away from our Earth.
And so, when the agency announced the discovery of this planet, it brings the tally of Kepler discoveries up to 1,030.
