Line introduces light version of its service for Android devices for emerging markets

WASHINGTON: Japanese mobile messaging company Line has launched a light version of its service for Android devices for emerging markets.

The service has 205 million monthly active users, but over half of those are located in Japan, Thailand and Taiwan.

According to the Techcrunch.com, Line Lite is just 1MB in size and is releasing in eleven countries including Algeria, Cambodia, Colombia, Egypt, India, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Korea, and Vietnam.

The Lite version does not include audio and video calling feature and has dropped the Timeline feature as well. Only the core features of the app like texting, stickers and image sharing are available.

Line says in a statement that it intends to add new features in the future.
