Malaysian police seize RM168m worth of drugs in Jan-June

KUALA LUMPUR: The police Narcotics Department seized a total of RM168 million worth of drugs between Jan and July 23 this year. Federal police Narcotics Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the drugs seized includes synthetic and traditional drugs.

The synthetic drugs seized are 696kg of syabu, 32kg of Ketamine, 377,280 Ecstasy pills, 437,341 Yaba pills and more than a million Eramine-5 pills. The traditional drugs seized, he said, comprised 873kg cannabis and 489kg heroin. “Within the first seven month this year, we had arrested 101,574, 10,570 people for supplying drugs and 23,504 people for the possession of drugs.

A total of 67,500 individuals tested positive for drugs,” he said. Mokhtar said the number of people arrested includes a total of 3,963 foreigners. He added RM39.7 million of properties were confiscated by the police between January and July 23.

Mokhtar was speaking to reporters in a press conference held at Federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman today. On Saturday police seized RM2.8 million worth of heroin and nabbed 22 Pakistani men in a special operation Mokhtar said in the operation, the Narcotics Department and Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group raided two units of shoplots and three containers at Desa Melawati area “Checks on the container revealed 13 packets of drugs weighing 35kg stashed in between cubes of haystack,” said Mokhtar.

Investigations revealed the container, imported from Karachi, Pakistan were meant for foreign market. The suspects, aged between 20 and 45 were remanded for seven days under Section 39 (B) for drug trafficking for Investigations.
