7,600 tents, 7,000 mosquito nets: Punjab govt sends relief goods to flood-hit districts

LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), on the special directives of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, has dispatched tonnes of relief goods to the flood-hit people in the several southern areas of the province.

The relief goods, including 7,600 tents and 7,000 mosquito nets, have been sent to flood-hit districts Mianwali, Bhakkar, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Layyah and Rajanpur. Livestock & Dairy Development has so far vaccinated 442,336 cattle, while 142,000kg fodder has also been provided for the cattle.

The PDMA spokesman said that the authority has set up about 136 relief camps in the areas.

“Moreover, 35 thousand bags of edible items of 20kg each have also been distributed among flood affectees. Three times meal is also being provided to 21,897 persons residing in flood relief camps by the administration. As many as 232 motor boats are engaged in operation for rescuing marooned people and 72 thousand bottles of mineral water have also been provided to the affectees,” the spokesman added.

Punjab Information & Culture Secretary Momin Agha reviewed the arrangements made with regard to flood in district Narowal. He inspected under construction protective bund on Nullah Daik at Mouza Chahor and directed concerned authorities of Irrigation Department to complete this project by working round the clock.
