SIALKOT: It has become very hard for the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to achieve the tax recovery target of Rs 1.8 billion fixed for Sialkot and Gujranwala regions for September after the flood wreaked havoc in both regions.
According to the senior FBR officials, the FBR had set a recovery target of Rs 850 million for Sialkot region comprising Sialkot, Narowal and Gujrat districts and Rs 950 million target for Gujranwala region comprising Gujranwala, Mandi Bahuddin and Hafizabad region during September 2014.
Sources said that this year the flash floods have devastated these regions due to which it may be very challenging for the FBR to achieve this target, as most of the small industrial units were flooded and destroyed by the flood. “There is also electricity problem in flood devastated areas due to which the small industrial units could not start production and have been suffering from great financial crisis. It is possible that these small industrial units may not deposit their taxes during this month,” they added.
