BRASILIA: Brazil has renewed for another year the import tariff exemption on primary aluminium, as falling local production proves insufficient to meet market demand.
The country’s foreign trade council, Camex, has extended the exemption for unwrought aluminium imports until August 17, 2016, according to a resolution published in Brazil’s official gazette. A total of 650,000 tonnes of imported metal will be free of the 6% tariff – the volume includes also the 300,000 tonnes initial quota announced in August 2014. The terms governing the allocation of the quota over the period will be published shortly, Camex said.
