Govt adopts new austerity measures

ISLAMABAD: The Federal government, while adopting new austerity plan in a bid to control the soaring expenditures, has imposed ban on the purchase of new vehicles, new recruitments, official luncheons and dinners,.

According to five-point austerity plan, no new vehicle would be purchased for the current as well as development expenditures except operational vehicles of the law enforcing agencies. Recruitment of new people in the public departments has also been stopped, even creation of new posts have also been banned except those required for development projects.

Moreover, the government has directed that entitlement of periodical, magazines etc of all officers would remain restricted to only one daily newspaper. Similarly, the incumbent government has also decided to restrict the official luncheons and dinners.

The Finance Ministry has issued a notification to implement the austerity plan immediately for the current financial year 2014-15.
