Dubai chamber inaugurates calligraphy exhibition

DUBAI: In line with the Arabic Language directives announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to establish Dubai as the centre of excellence for the Arabic language and to preserve and strengthen its position in the society and as part of the Arabic Month, the National Identity Committee of Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in cooperation with Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, has organised an Arabic Language Exhibition at the Chamber headquarters under way till Wednesday.

The Exhibition was inaugurated by Majid Al Shamsi, 1st Vice Chairman, Dubai Chamber, in the presence of Saeed Mohamed Al Nabouda, Acting Director General, Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Essa Al Zaabi, Senior Vice-President, Institutional Support Sector, and Chairman, National Identity Committee, Dubai Chamber, and a large number of Chamber staff and customers.

The exhibition includes unique calligraphy artworks display, calligraphers portraying the magnificence of the Arabic language for the visitors to know the history and the basics of the Arabic fonts and an Arabic book bazaar.

Al Shamsi stated that the age-old Arabic language is deeply rooted in the Arab identity and culture and hence a source of pride for all its speakers. This exhibition will rightly promote the beauty of the language amongst the hundreds of Chamber staff and customers coming from a wide array of nationalities living and working in Dubai.

He added that the Arabic Language Exhibition provides a unique opportunity for the Chamber’s National Identity Committee to encourage a wider use of the language in the work environment since it is the responsibility of the native speakers in the country to highlight the richness of the language.
