BAKU: State Customs Committee has clarified the issue of import of genetically modified products to the country.
The information was disseminated by some internet editions.
Sources in the committee told that a respective law prohibiting the import of genetically modified products was adopted in Azerbaijan and the customs bodies are taking measures within their competence to prevent the import of this production.
“During the import of agricultural production to the country, including seeds and sowing materials, we, in line with the kind and type of production, will demand necessary certificates, permissions, as well as documents certifying the state registration of products.
In addition, the samples of plants are checked with the list of genetically modified production recognized on the international level. The labels on the package are also checked”, the minister said.
“As soon as there is suspicion regarding any item, inspection procedures and labotaroy studies are immediatedly applied.
Today, along with the due measures to prevent import of such products to the country, the customs bodies will also hold carefull inspection.
To this end, the customs bodies have received new laboratory equipment. The tax bodies will conduct coordinated action with other structures that have the respective powers”, the committee said.
