DUBLIN: Makayabella is being sold at auction after being seized by officials off the coast of Ireland last year
A yacht involved in a drug smuggling plot is due to go up for auction in Cork at midday on 30 July.
Makayabella was seized by officials off the cost of Ireland last September after an estimated £150m worth of cocaine was found on board.
Dominic J. Daly Marine is handling the yacht’s sale on behalf of the Irish Police Authority, with an auction taking place at the Carrigaline Court Hotel in Cork.
As many as 20 people are reported have viewed the yacht, currently based at the Irish naval base at Haulbowline.
Speaking about the sale, auctioneer Dominic Daly told media that “We’ve had people coming to view her from Northern Ireland, the UK, New Zealand and from the Carribean.
“She is quite a large yacht and can accommodate between 10 to 12 people. She does need a new set of sails after they were blown out in a storm on her last crossing.”
