Traders observe shutter down strike in Lahore

LAHORE: Traders in Lahore and throughout the country observed a shutter down strike on Saturday against the imposition of withholding tax on bank transactions.

On the call of the Anjam-e-Tajran Pakistan and All Pakistan Tajir Ittehad, there was a complete shutter down in the city and other parts of the country. Out of 700 markets, at least 650 markets were closed in the City.

The traders while denouncing the imposition of withholding tax on bank transactions have announced to broaden the sphere of protest.  Most of the markets remained closed in the city including Brandreth Road, Circular Road, Shah Alam Market, Suha Bazaar, Steel Market, Akbari Mandi, Badami Bagh, Misri Shah, Marble Market, Liberty, Ferozepur Road, Plastic Market, Hall Road, Nisbat Road and Mall Road.

Traders and other business communities also observed strike against WHT in other cities of Pakistan. The businesses including the power looms industries have been shutdown in protest in Faisalabad. The Power Looms Association demanded the government to withdraw tax immediately.
