OTTAWA: The much-rumored BlackBerry Dallas, which leaked as the BlackBerry Oslo initially, is poised to release soon and will reportedly be called the BlackBerry Passport Silver Edition.
A slide allegedly from BlackBerry Canada’s documents has leaked online and lets on that the impending smartphone will be named BlackBerry Passport Silver Edition and not Dallas or Oslo as previously speculated. The slide is marked “confidential” and was posted by French website BlackBerry 10.
The leaked image gives a glimpse of the silver variant of the BlackBerry Passport donning the Silver Edition branding. Since the document shows the date “7/30/2015,” many may be inclined to suggest that the leaked device is fake. However, a possibility exists that this was the date when the confidential documents were approved internally.
This is not the first time the Silver Edition of the BlackBerry Passport has been in the news. The device was certified in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore recently, and the FCC also approved the BlackBerry Dallas. This suggests that the smartphone’s Silver Edition could hit shelves soon.
Considering the Silver Edition shares its name with the original BlackBerry Passport, it will likely tout the same features. The image suggests that the Silver Edition will also have rounded edges like the AT&T variant of the BlackBerry Passport and not the sharp corners sported by the original BlackBerry Passport.
The smartphone is anticipated to tout a 4.5-inch square screen with a resolution of 1440 by 1440 pixels and 453ppi. The square shape enables users to “Work Wider,” the company claims. Under the hood, the Silver Edition will likely tout a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.2GHz.
The device will pack in a 13MP primary camera with optical image stabilization and a 2MP front-facing camera for all your selfie needs. The BlackBerry Passport Silver Edition will possibly house a powerful 3,450 mAh battery and come with BlackBerry 10.3 OS out of the box.
It is not known when the smartphone will be released and whether it will make its way to U.S. shores. However, considering it received a certification from the FCC, the BlackBerry Passport Silver Edition may hit U.S. shelves eventually.
