ABUJA: Customs Area Controller for Oyo/Osun Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Mr. Mohammed Bawa, yesterday said the Command generated a whopping N5,898,773,058.56 in the last four months.
The customs boss, while addressing journalists in Ibadan shortly before carrying out destruction of 120 cartons of imported frozen products it seized, said a total of 92 seizures with eight suspects were taken into custody in the period under review, while Duty Paid Value of the seizures amounted to N218.5 million.
He said: “Operatives of the command will continue to intensify efforts at keeping the recalcitrant smugglers, especially of imported poultry products out of business, while those caught will be made to face the law.”
Bawa, who took over command on March 25 this year, charged members of the public to support government’s ongoing war against importation of imported frozen poultry products, which he said, apart from being injurious to health, would also cripple the economy.
