ABUJA: The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Area Command, on Wednesday said it generated N167 billion revenue between January and July.

Mr Eporwei Edike, the Controller in charge of the command, said this while disclosing the command’s revenue profile at a stakeholders’ meeting with licensed agents in Lagos.

He said that the command’s revenue in the period under review was 4.51 per cent higher than the N159.8 billion in the same period in 2014.

Edike also said that the command’s anti- smuggling operations led to the seizure of 159 containers for various offences during the period in review.

The comptroller said that the owners of 153 containers had so far paid the prescribed penalties while six containers were still in custody.

Edike, who also used the forum to clarify that no task force had been sent to the port, said: “ There is no task force at the port and the CGC has ordered the arrest of anyone found guilty.

“The officers are just on practical training to equip them for the good of the trading public to minimise disputes.

“These officers are only to examine containers and input what they see.Releasing is not part of their mandate and they are not here to release.”

On the issue of the faulty scanners used for goods examination, Edike said the equipment were undergoing maintenance and that approval had been given for re-routing.(NAN)
