COCHIN: Customs sleuths at the Cochin International Airport seized gold worth Rs.20 lakh from a passenger on his arrival from Dubai here the other day.
Acting on a tip-off, officials intercepted Vijesh, a native of Malappuram, at the exit of the arrival hall who was attempting to go through the green channel. He did not make any declarations about the gold and also replied in the negative when asked whether he had any gold in his possession.
During interrogation, the accused, however, revealed he had hidden the gold in his rectum.
Later, the officials recovered seven gold bars, weighing a total of 800 grams.
