MEXICO: For more than 70,000 years the Yellowstone supervolcano is laying dormant. But if it erupts someday then as per researchers it would instantly take lives of 90,000 people. The molten ash will be spewing 1,000 miles from the park. Most importantly, the supervolcano will blanket the US in a ‘nuclear winter’.
Scientists said that the volcano at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming and Montana is present atop a huge reserve of molten rock and the last eruption has taken place 640,000 years ago. As per experts, there is one in 700,000 annual chance of volcanic eruption at the site. Therefore, there are very less chances of such type of eruption.
Due to ash in the air, the air travel will be stopped. There are also chances that the ‘volcanic winter’ could blanket much of the United States and other nations.
“Sulfuric gases released from the volcano would spring into the atmosphere and mix with the planet’s water vapor. The haze of gas that could drape the country wouldn’t just dim the sunlight – it also would cool temperatures”, affirmed scientists.
