Taiwan stocks end lower, Taiwan Weighted slumps 0.86%

TAIPEI: Taiwan stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the , Oil, Gas & Electricity and Plastic sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted fell 0.86% to hit a new 52-week low.

The best performers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Candmark (TW:5259), which rose 9.80% or 1.00 points to trade at 11.20 at the close. Meanwhile, G-Tech (TW:3149) added 9.51% or 1.25 points to end at 14.40 and Aoc (TW:6289) was up 9.41% or 0.08 points to 0.93 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Zero One Tech (TW:3029), which fell 9.93% or 2.20 points to trade at 19.95 at the close. Wistron Neweb (TW:6285) declined 9.91% or 7.80 points to end at 70.90 and Shin Zu Shing (TW:3376) was down 9.90% or 8.50 points to 77.40.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Taiwan Stock Exchange by 640 to 204.

Crude oil for September delivery was down 1.08% or 0.48 to $44.48 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.81% or 0.41 to hit $50.60 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.44% or 4.90 to trade at $1099.20 a troy ounce.

USD/TWD was up 1.06% to 32.090, while TWD/CNY rose 1.47% to 0.2006.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.34% at 97.56.
