NEW DELHI: Google has strong desire to reach the “next 5 billion” mobile users. Android and Chrome chief Sundar Pichai announced a new initiative called “Android One”, which aims to push forward those plans. Not surprisingly, the initiative will continue Motorola’s successes with offering “high-quality low-cost” smartphones for emerging markets.

The plan for Android One is that Google will work with manufacturers to help them build the best smartphones possible while still offering the features and apps that are the most useful for a particular region.

Google had already started rolling out Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop) update for the Android One smartphones in India. Micromax Canvas A1, Spice Dream UNO Mi-498 and Karbonn Sparkle V are receiving Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update.

Users can also manually check for it by going into Settings > About Phone > System Updates. Google officially announced Android 5.0 Lollipop successor Android 5.1 update for supported smartphones which include HTC’s Nexus 9, Motorola’s Nexus 6 and other Android devices.

The Android 5.1 update to Lollipop improves stability and performance and offers a few new features like support for multiple SIM cards, Device Protection and high-definition (HD) voice on compatible phones.

Google’s new update has laid a lot of emphasis on stability and enhancement stability along with newly enthused security features such as theft protection which is in response to the Cupertino’s Active Lock and it works on the same anti-theft guidelines meaning that no one can garner access to your phone until and unless you sign in your Google account.
