TEHRAN: Over 4.351 million tons of goods were transited via Iran during the first four months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-July 22), according to Iran’s Transport and Urban Development Ministry.
The transited goods mostly consisted of oil and petrochemical products as well as cotton.
Iraq and Turkey were the main countries which transited goods via Iran, each accounting for 10 percent of transited consignments.
Transit of goods via Iran stood at 977,351 tons in the fourth Iranian calendar month of Tir (June 22-July 22).
Transit of goods via the country rose by 6.5 percent in the past Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, compared to the year before.
Over 12.3 million tons of goods were transited via the country in the previous calendar year.
Shahriyar Afandizadeh, the Iranian deputy transport and urban development minister, has said that Iran has the capacity to transit 40 million tons of goods annually.
