DURBAN: The Loeries will boost city coffers by more than R60 million and create almost 200 jobs in the tourism sector – this is according to the eThekwini Municipality.
An estimated crowd of more than 4 000 people are expected to descend on Durban for the event, close to the same amount as in 2013, while the estimated direct spend by the visitors is projected to be around R35.9 million.The Loeries Creative week, which started this week with the actual awards on August 15 and 16, will feature some of the continents top creative talents.
The Loeries Creative Week is aimed at showcasing what local creatives, ad agencies and companies have to offer from: music, film, architecture to words and live performances. Spokesperson of the eThekwini Municipality, Tozi Mthethwa, said the awards will contribute around R60.5 million to the municipality’s GDP and is estimated to create 178 jobs in the Durban tourism sector.
