MIAMI: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operation (OFO) officers at Miami International Airport (MIA) seized an estimated 500 grams of cocaine concealed within motorcycle parts in a package arriving from Colombia. The package was destined to China and was seized on Monday, July 20th.
CBP officers selected the package manifested as “motorcycle parts for repair” for examination. Upon X-ray, different densities were noticed throughout the parts. The package was opened and three small motorcycle parts were discovered.
The motorcycle parts were drilled producing a white, powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine. A total of approximately 500 grams was seized and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
“We are extremely proud of the role our CBP officers play in ensuring illegal drugs don’t make it into the United States. They work very hard and exemplify great skill in detecting even the most artful concealment methods,” said MIA Port Director Christopher Maston.
The men and women of CBP are responsible for enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws and regulations. On a typical day, CBP welcomes nearly 1 million visitors, screens more than 67,000 cargo containers, arrests more than 1,100 individuals and seizes nearly 6 tons of illicit drugs.
