DUBAI: Dubai Customs, in collaboration with the University of Dubai (UoD), has launched an excellence initiative, “Tafawoq”, geared towards training Customs leaders and managers both professionally and academically in the fields of customs work and logistics.

Last June, DC and UoD inked an agreement to offer diploma and bachelor’s degree study programs in supply chain, logistics and customs.  Enrollees  from both customs and non-customs staff are entitled to receive accredited degrees from the University.

Commenting on the initiative, H.E. Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs, said that the United Arab Emirates is relentlessly pursuing excellence towards number one status in all spheres, guided by the clear direction drawn by the wise leadership.

“In the same perspective, Dubai Customs is committed to attracting talented and skilled individuals, and building their competencies within a stimulating work environment favorable to career growth, while picking the best of specialized professional programs for them to keep up the journey of excellence and help maintain the UAE’s leadership in all areas both regionally and internationally,” he stated.

Buti Al Jumairi, Executive Director of Human Resources, Finance and Administration Division at Dubai Customs, highlighted that such initiative is part of Dubai Customs steady strides to increase the pool of UAE local talents specialized in customs and logistics.

“This specialization is one of the rarest in the world, and will definitely contribute a lot to improving the efficiency and professionalism of  our personnel to help meet DC’s strategic objectives and anchor the UAE’s knowledge economy,” he said.

The course of study is mainly targeting elite leaders and managers with no less than three years of experience in customs fields, and who have achieved outstanding performance results, have the true ambition and motivation  for self-development and output improvement, and are capable of cascading knowledge to fellow workers and leading by innovation.

“Dubai Customs’ academic and professional programs are aimed at empowering enrolled employees to be able to analyze customs policies, procedures and declarations with high efficiency, in addition to increasing their overall knowledge pertaining to international customs pacts and world trade agreements, supply chain and analysis of customs cases,” added Al Jumairi.

Sheikha Al Ghafri, Senior Manager of Customs Training Center at Dubai Customs, said: “Tafawoq initiative is set to empower DC staff, expand their knowledge base and enhance their self-development. Moreover, we have launched a series of in-house field visits and workshops in order to promote the initiative at a larger scale among leaders and managers; clarifying the admission requirements and the program contents.”

Dubai Customs is always keen on supporting education as a lead catalyst for innovation and creativity; adding up a new milestone to the mounting achievements of the UAE’s sustainable development drive.
