ALABAMA: City Manager (CM) Kim Kiefer will retire at the end of the year. Kiefer made the announcement in an email to all CBJ employees. I want you to know that I have informed the Mayor and Assembly that I will be leaving my position as City Manager effective December 31, 2015, she wrote.
In a Friday phone interview with the Empire, Kiefer made clear that her decision to retire has absolutely nothing to do with her recent performance evaluation. In fact, she sees this more as an opportunity to bow out while she’s ahead, and she said that she has picked a good time to do so. I thought long and hard about it, and I also thought about the timing for the CBJ and the Assembly, Kiefer said.
With the fall’s municipal election drawing near, there is a chance the Assembly might have some new members who will to take part in the search for a new city manager. Kiefer also said starting at the beginning of the year will enable the new city manager to help steer budget discussions.
