SINGAPORE: Four suspects have been arrested after the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) seized S$254,000 of heroin hidden in bags of cabbages here the other day.
Officers were sent to Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8 as a suspected trafficker was believed to be waiting for a consignment of drugs there, said CNB.
A white-coloured Malaysia-registered lorry arrived in the area at about 5.45am, and the suspected trafficker was seen approaching the lorry and handing a plastic bag to one of the passengers inside. The 46-year-old Singaporean then received four plastic bags in return, before they parted ways.
CNB officers followed the suspected trafficker to a coffee shop nearby and arrested him. The four plastic bags were found to contain eight bundles of heroin hidden in eight cabbages. About 3.6kg of heroin was seized in the operation, said CNB.
Later at 6.45am, the lorry was stopped at Woodlands Checkpoint and CNB officers arrested three Malaysian men, who are suspected to be drug couriers. CNB officers also found S$18,500 worth of cash in a plastic bag behind the driver’s seat.
“The drugs were packed and hidden using a method not encountered previously,” said CNB.
The four men are under investigation, said CNB. If convicted, they may face the death penalty.
