Finance Ministry has directed FBR to eradicate corrupt officials from the board to improve the tax collection system and to boost the taxpayers’ confidence, sources said, adding that FBR has already prepared a list of 200 officials, allegedly involved in corruption cases.

According to officials in Pakistan Customs and the Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) in Karachi, said there are hurdles in completing action against the corrupt officials as most of them have support of political parties.

As per the disclosure in a parliamentary committee, the annual corruption in FBR is around Rs600 billion, which is around 30 percent of the total collection and almost half of the budget deficit, which was Rs1,388 billion in 2013-14.
