KARACHI: The Karachi Customs Agents Association (KCAA) has urged Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to amend Customs Act, 1969 to ‘compensate’ the victims of terrorism activities.

KCAA, in its annual report for the year 2013-14, said that a clause must be included in the Act to allow refunds of paid duty and taxes against consignments that were destroyed in terror incidents.

Citing the incidents, report said that consignments worth around Rs5 billion were destroyed when terrorists on June 8 attacked Jinnah International Airport and Air Freight Unit (AFU) Karachi. It also reported that those goods were also included in the losses where duty and taxes were paid. “FBR has been asked to amend the Customs Act, 1969 for issuance of refunds in case of terrorism,” the KCAA said.
