Finalnd’s turnover in service industries ups 4% in March to May

HELSINKI: Three months’ year-on-year change in turnover in services (TOL 2008). Source: Turnover of service industries, Statistics Finland. Turnover in service industries grew by 3.9 per cent in March to May from the corresponding period of the year before, according to Statistics Finland.

The turnover in service industries grew by 1.4 per cent over the same period one year ago. The turnover grew in almost all main service industries in March to May this year. The growth in turnover was still fastest in information and communication activities, where growth amounted to 11 per cent compared with the corresponding period of the previous year. Services are here examined exclusive of trade.

Of the sub-industries of information and communication activities, growth has still been fastest in software, consultancy and related activities that grew by 20.2 per cent year-on-year. Motion picture, video and television programme production, sound recording and music publishing activities also grew strongly from one year back. The turnover in service industries also grew favourably in the main industry of professional, scientific and technical activities, where turnover went up by 5.5 per cent year-on-year, according to the data.

Of the sub-industries, the turnover of architectural and engineering activities and legal and accounting activities developed favourably. Among the main industries, the weakest development was in other service activities, where turnover went down by 0.7 per cent from one year back. Of the sub-industries of other service activities, development has been weakest in the repair of computers and personal and household goods where turnover declined by 5.7 per cent year-on-year in March to May.
