Vegetable price goes up on increase in demand

LAHORE: Just few days before the Eidul Azha, price of vegetables kept on increasing in the city markets while the supplies of the majority of seasonal vegetables remained suspended pushing the rates higher.

As per details, the vegetable prices were increasing as expected before the Eid day; however, as tomato was imported from India, pressure on this commodity is not that much.

The traders in market said that Pakistan has not been producing tomato these days and importing tomato from India which can be halted anytime by disturbance across the border. They said that tomato price gone higher due to increase in its consumption during the next week due to Eidul Azha. The price could again cross the Rs100 / kg in wholesale level depending on the arrival of tomato from India, they added.

Moreover, the garlic China price was raised by Rs3 per kg, fixed at Rs110 to 115 per kg, garlic local reached Rs115 to 122 per kg. Ginger Singapore was fixed at Rs185 to 190 per kg with a gain of Rs5 per kg, ginger China at Rs275 to 280 per kg, ginger India at Rs98 to 102 per kg, with Rs8 per kg increase, ginger Thailand at Rs154 to 158 per kg, while Indian was sold at Rs280 per kg. Brinjal price was increased by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs26 to 29 per kg and sold at Rs30 per kg. Cucumber local was gained by Rs12 per kg, fixed at Rs59 to 62 per kg, lower quality was sold at Rs60 per kg. Pumpkin price increased by Rs9 per kg, fixed at Rs50 to 54 per kg and sold at Rs60 per kg. Luffa price gained by Rs21 per kg, fixed at Rs69 to 72 per kg and sold at Rs80 per kg.
