OTTAWA: The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says it is not reviewing overnight staffing policies at Gander International Airport.
This statement comes after Airport Authority CEO Reg Wright expressed concerns that the CBSA was looking to eliminate overnight shifts at the airport, and instead call workers at home when needed.
Wright said he received a call Thursday from the head of the CBSA, who said the agency was reviewing late-night staffing options in an attempt to save money.
Wright said switching to on-call staffing would be problematic because about half of his employees live an hour or more away from the airport.
An email from the CBSA, revealed that Gander International Airport’s designation “is not being reviewed and the CBSA will continue to provide 24 hour service seven days per week.”
