US Toma outlines Pooler’s growth at economic outlook

POOLER: The City of Pooler has experienced stunning population growth and employment since 2000, said Dr. Michael Toma, a Fuller Callaway Professor of Economics at Armstrong State University.Toma outlined what’s supporting Pooler’s growth at economic outlook presentation.

Pooler out paces population growth in the state of Georgia by a ratio of about 3 to 1 and quicker than growth in the City of Savannah and Chatham County as whole, he said. He said the growth has lead to a higher median income for Pooler residents as compared to Savannah, and a lower unemployment rate compared to the rest of the state.

Pooler Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Pam Southard said being open about Pooler’s economic future benefits everyone in the business community.”It opens up jobs it draws businesses to Pooler and lets them know that we are the place that business can thrive,” said Southard.Arc Media Group owner Noah Yaughn said knowing where Pooler is heading, and what businesses are doing well, helps him figure out how to better run his business.

As a web developer I know that if a particular segment of market is doing better than hey maybe those are the ones to go after,” he said.Toma said Pooler’s growth isn’t just in a vaccum. He said the city owes a lot to, and depends on the success of nearby Savannah.
