NEW DELHI: Whenever there has been talk of the Snapdragon 820 processor, Xiaomi’s Mi 5 flagship has been high on the list of devices that could feature the new silicon. A new report is now indicating that it might not be the case as the Mi 5 is revealed to be featuring Mediatek’s Helio X20 chip which uses a 10 core CPU architecture.

The handset has managed to score an impressive 73,075 points on AnTuTu, speaking volumes about its performance. Also since Qualcomm isn’t expected to bring the Snapdragon 820 to the markets until 2016, there was no real possibility of seeing the chipset ahead of time.

The report from China further suggests that Xiaomi might go with the Snapdragon 820 if the Mi 5 is slated for a release in 2016, but since that’s not the case, the company will go with the powerful 10 core Helio X20 instead. It is also said that the handset will be just 5.3mm thick and will feature a fingerprint scanner and a USB Type C port as well.

Rumored specs of the Xiaomi Mi 5:

  • 5.3-inch Quad HD (2560×1440) display · 5.3mm thickness · 10-core Mediatek Helio X20 processor · 4GB of RAM · 16/64GB of internal storage (no card slot) · 16MP rear camera, 13MP front camera · 3,030 mAh battery · Android 5.1 with MIUI 7.
