NEW DELHI: Red sanders Anti-smuggling Task Force and Puttur range forest officials seized a lorry carrying red sanders logs worth more than Rs. 1 crore on the outskirts of Puttur here the other day.
While the task force was conducting regular checks at Gollapalli forest check-post on the Tirupati-Chennai national highway, a lorry coming from Tirupati side gave the checking squad a slip and sped past towards Pichhatur.
Alert task force personnel chased the lorry and intercepted it after 3 km. Taking advantage of darkness, the people on board fled, abandoning the vehicle. The squad members led by Forest Range Officer (Puttur) M. Reddappa shifted the seized lorry and logs to the area godown.
