LAREDO: Border Patrol agents from the Laredo Sector encounter narcotics in two separate cases.
Agents assigned to the Laredo North Station observed 6 subjects attempting to smuggle bundles of marijuana into the United States while working their assigned duties. Upon encounter, the subjects absconded back to Mexico. Agents recovered 5 bundles of marijuana with a weight of 361.77 lbs. worth an estimated value of $289,416.00 USD. The marijuana was turned over to DEA.
On August 18, agents assigned to the Laredo North Station attempted to make a vehicle stop on a Ford Taurus in the Mines Road area. The vehicle initially failed to yield but later exited the roadway where the driver absconded and the passenger was apprehended with the assistance of the Laredo Police Department. A search of the vehicle revealed four bundles of marijuana, totaling 291.67 lbs. with an estimated value of $233,336.00 USD. The Laredo Police Department took custody of the subject, vehicle and marijuana.
