TOKYO: Tokyo stocks plunged 2.10 percent in the morning session of Friday on concerns over the yen’s appreciation against the U.S. dollar.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 420.59 points, from Thursday to end the morning at 19,612.93, a roughly six-week intraday low. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange shed 39.87 points, or 2.46 percent, to 1,584.01.
All but two industry groups on the main section lost ground, with insurance, banking and miscellaneous products leading decliners.
