OTTAWA: A young man from Canada has created a tinder-style app Salaam Swipe for Muslims to help find prospective life partners. Surrey, B.C. based 26-year-old Khalil Jessa, the brain behind the app, said that the app has garnered immense response from the community. The app was officially launched on Wednesday.

Muslims traditionally relied on the word-of-mouth concept to look out for potential partners from their community. However, with globalization and the dominance of western influence, Muslim men and women are no longer satisfied with their parents’ choice. They now want to actively look for partners and date them to understand them better.

Thus, this app has found resonance in the community. Jessa, a young lad from Surrey that this app will solve a lot of issues faced by the Muslim youth in the matters of the heart; due to the strict policy of segregation and no-mix policy, Muslim men are denied the opportunity to know members from the opposite sex. Shia and Sunni divisions prevent them from getting to talk freely amongst themselves. This app promises to do away with the barriers.

This app will bring them closer and help them intermingle and know each other better without violating any of the mores of their culture.

The app is also safe for women since it has better protection features to help protect the identity of people, and does not compromise their data. This is much better than Tinder which has a more loose policy for privacy which leads to data breach, compromise and makes it famous for being a hooking agency.

The app also has appropriate and strict filters which help you narrow down the choices to the basics. You can choose someone based on geography, location, denomination, occupation, status, etc. Even subtle nuances are taken care of, say for instance, liberal Shia or conservative Sunni and you can match your likes.

Just like in the Asian community, in the Muslim world too, families exchanged profiles and pictures of the prospective groom and bride and if everything went as per their liking, they would meet up or talk through mediators, on the phone, chat, etc. This app does the same thing except it lets you do that in the privacy of your home and at your convenience.
